Nicholas Fahrenkrug is an American baritone from Davenport, Iowa, building a versatile career across opera, concert, and contemporary repertoire. He has quickly established himself in a range of resident artist programs and regional houses, with recent and upcoming engagements including Sarasota Opera, Central City Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Odyssey Opera, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Nightingale Vocal Ensemble.

In Summer 2026, he joins Central City Opera as an Apprentice Artist where he will cover Horace Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe. Recent season highlights include covering Guglielmo in Così fan tutte and Danilo in The Merry Widow at Sarasota Opera, making his Odyssey Opera debut in Mark Adamo’s Lysistrata (recorded for upcoming release on Pentatone), and appearing with Opera Philadelphia in broadcast concert programs featuring the Opera Philadelphia Chorus and the historic Wanamaker Organ.

He moves comfortably between opera and concert work, with a repertoire spanning standard works and contemporary premieres. He holds degrees from Louisiana State University and Lawrence University.

Baritone Nicholas Fahrenkrug inhabited this character with casual deftness, his excellent voice and acting at first concealing Duffy’s priggishness, although it sneaks out when he offers the strange observation, early on, that “I have this odd habit,” that of thinking of himself in the third person.
